Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO), a public, historically black university, empowers and promotes the upward mobility of diverse populations of traditional and nontraditional students through quality academic programs and service to achieve excellence in higher education. The institution envisions itself as a premier educational institution in the areas of urban transformation, civic engagement and global outreach. The core values that govern institutional pursuit include academic excellence, accountability, integrity, transparency, service and resiliency. Founded in 1956, SUNO is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools - Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award Associate, Bachelor and Masters degrees.
The academic programs are accredited by all specialized accrediting agencies required by the Louisiana Board of Regents in the fields of Education, Social Work, Business Administration, Computer Information Systems and Health Information Management Systems. SUNO is approved by SACSCOC to offer B.S. Criminal Justice, B.G.S. General Studies and M.A. Museum Studies in 100% Online mode, in addition to land-based mode, in a regular semester format.
Furthermore, SUNO is approved to offer the B.G.S. General Studies (Humanities Concentration) in an accelerated eight-week Online mode. Online classes are coordinated by the Office of E Learning in conjunction with the college Deans under the overall supervision of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Accreditation Liaison.
